Show Cause Notice to Mr. Manmohan Singh – Prime Minister of India

Dear Mr. Manmohan Singhji and your exalted governement,

You have consistently followed a sluggish and reluctant approach towards addressing minor issues such as CWG scam, 2G Scam, Adarsh Colony scam etc. etc. That is understandable considering it cost Indian exchequer a paltry sum running to a few Lac Crores (Tiny brains of your citizens cannot even imagine this number. We can deal with either a Lac or a crore. Both together is just too much to handle).

We have farmers dying in Vidarbha, scamsters flourishing in local state fiefdoms, food prices sky-rocketing and economic growth taking a most unsettling nose-dive. But you have maintained an equanimity worthy of a sthit-pragn siddh-yogi (a great sage at peace with and in balance with the universe as it is). Whiny squalling unworthy citizens and nosy media keep bothering you with questions around this insignificant issues. We are really very sorry for disturbing sanctity of your tranquility.

But now all of a sudden, a 75 year old annoying man armed with nothing but harsh words and strong views is threateing that peace you hold so dear. We are eternally grateful that you are so very much concerned with our well-being. Here we were starting to think, you thought we were just a mythical creature that comes in to existence every five years for that delightful magic show called democrazy!

We applaud your efficiency and your concern for law and order. We are delighted to know that fearing for our well-being you have put pesky little people like Arvind Kejriwal, Anna Hazare and Kiran Bedi behind bars. Poor souls, they think that freedom of speech and freedom of expression is their fundamental right. But dear Dr. Singh, as we all know (and you know it better than the most) that freedom of speech and expression is just a myth. There are no fundamental rights unless Madam says so.

While we are giddy with happiness at the swiftness reflected in this action on August 16, 2011, we do have a question that needs to be answered. What follows is a list of known criminals ( I know, you might have forgotten the names of these petty criminals) and their crimes-

Ajmal Kasab | Crime – participated in killing 166 Indians in 2008 | Sentenced to death in 2010 | Status – Imprisoned

Afzal Guru | Crime – Attacked Indian parliament in 2001 | Sentenced to death in 2004 | Status – Imprisoned

Maulana Masood Azhar | Crime – various acts of terrorism from 1992-till date | No sentence | Status – At large

Anna Hazare | Crime – Planning to hold a peaceful protest and fast | Served prohibitory orders on Aug 15, 2011 | Detained at 7.30 am on Aug 16, 2011 before he could leave his residence!!

Why is Anna Hazare the only one facing this new-found agility in your apparatus? Why Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi worthy of the same fate reserved for hardened terrorists, murderers and thieves?

This, in your officialdom lingo, is a show cause notice from an ordinary citizen of India. Explain why Hazare, Kejriwal and Bedi deserve a week in Tihar while actual criminals go scot-free or remain unpunished in luxurious limbo?

Being an ordinary citizen, there isn’t much that we can do if you do not come up with a reasonable explanation. But here is the deal. Remember that magic we do every five years and you have been enjoying the spell we have been casting for last 2 shows. Well, we know how to reverse the spell!!

Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!

An Indian Citizen

PS – Mind you, I am not at all in agreement with the bill that Anna and his team are proposing. On this same piece of virtual estate, I have earlier tried to explain my concerns. That being said, they do have a right to peaceful protests and you, dear Sir, have kicked a hornet’s nest by denying them that right!!

Good stuff.. Totally agree.. Look at the time it took to get Messrs Raja, Kanimozhi, Kalmadi to Tihar (6-8 months) but Anna Hazare – No time at all.. So much proactivenes…

& In Independence Day speech, the talk was all about rooting corruption…

Same sentiment: Do not agree with Lokpal bill but then theres a way to deal with it & this is just Emergency Part 2… Congress is going out of its way to ensure that they dont want a 3rd term but no one has stepped up to take the baton.. That is the real sad deal….

  2. Well put Bihag. It’s really sad. Me too is not in full agreement with all of Anna’s recommendations but one cannot take away the basic right to protest in a democracy. I have lost all my respect for the Prime Minister. I used to wonder can he stoop lany ower and he continues to prove me wrong time and again. A person once told me that we overestimate the economist in Manmohan Singh and underestimate the politician in him. I think its true. He is no different from any other crooked politician out there.
